Client Reviews

In Their Own Words

When my company received notification of an investigation, I did not know where to start. Ravencourt was recommended by a colleague, and from the first meeting they made the situation far easier to navigate. The advice was direct without being alarming. We knew what was happening at every stage and what we needed to do. The matter was handled with a great deal of care.

Tan Choon Wei

Director, Petaling Jaya · March 2025

I moved to Kuala Lumpur from the UK some years ago and had been putting off sorting out my estate arrangements because I didn't know how to deal with assets in two countries. Rajan at Ravencourt explained the process clearly and without making me feel it was more complicated than necessary. My will and trust structure are now in order, and I feel considerably more settled about the whole thing.

The dispute with our franchisee had been going on for several months before we approached Ravencourt. They reviewed the agreement thoroughly, gave us a realistic picture of where we stood, and helped us reach a resolution that preserved the relationship — which mattered to us even though the disagreement was significant. The approach was measured and fair-minded throughout.

Norzaida Rashid

Franchisor, Shah Alam · January 2025

I was subject to an enforcement enquiry relating to my role as a director and was frankly worried. Datin Lim's manner was calm and reassuring without being unrealistic. She explained the process clearly and managed the correspondence with the relevant authority on our behalf. The outcome was satisfactory, and I would not hesitate to return to Ravencourt if needed.

Krishnamurthy Subramaniam

Company Director, Bangsar · March 2025

My husband and I are Australian and have been based in Malaysia for seven years. We finally decided to formalise our estate arrangements, including property in Perth. Ravencourt coordinated with a firm in Western Australia and made the whole process far less daunting than we had expected. Everything is documented clearly and we feel prepared.

Expatriate, Mont Kiara · February 2025

As a franchisee, I was concerned the firm might be biased toward the franchisor's position. They were not. The advice was based on the actual terms of the agreement and the facts of what had happened. The territory conflict was resolved through negotiation rather than litigation, which saved time and cost on both sides. A sensible and professionally managed process.

Case Summaries

Selected Matter Overviews

Names and identifying details have been altered. These summaries are illustrative of the types of matters handled.

Challenge

Regulatory Inquiry – Financial Services Sector

A mid-sized financial services company received a formal notice from a regulatory body requesting documents and an explanation of certain transaction records. The company had limited time to respond and was uncertain about what information could be appropriately disclosed.

Approach

Ravencourt reviewed the notice and relevant records, developed a structured response approach, and managed all correspondence with the authority. A considered written response was prepared within the deadline, accompanied by clearly organised supporting documentation.

Outcome

The authority concluded its initial inquiry without escalating to formal enforcement proceedings. The company was able to continue operating normally. The matter was resolved over approximately eight weeks from initial instruction.

"They gave us a clear picture of what to do at a time when we genuinely needed direction."

Challenge

Expatriate Estate Planning – Multiple Jurisdictions

A British national working in Kuala Lumpur held property in England, a share portfolio in Hong Kong, and a jointly owned apartment in Malaysia. He had no will and was concerned about what would happen to his assets if something happened to him.

Approach

Ravencourt mapped all assets across the three jurisdictions, coordinated with firms in England and Hong Kong to ensure compatibility, and drafted a Malaysian will with appropriate provisions for each category of asset. A trust structure was established for the Hong Kong portfolio.

Outcome

All documentation was executed within six weeks. The client now has clearly recorded estate arrangements across all three jurisdictions, with executors identified and briefed. He has since updated the documentation following a change in personal circumstances.

"I had been avoiding this for years. I wish I had done it sooner."

Challenge

Franchise Termination Dispute

A franchisor issued a notice of termination to a franchisee alleging breaches of the franchise agreement. The franchisee disputed the grounds, arguing that the alleged breaches were either minor or had been remedied within the timeframes specified. Both parties had significant financial exposure.

Approach

Ravencourt (acting for the franchisee) reviewed the agreement and the correspondence history in detail, identified the strongest available arguments, and proposed a negotiated resolution process to the franchisor's solicitors. Both parties agreed to structured mediation.

Outcome

The termination was withdrawn following mediation. A revised agreement was entered into with amended terms. Formal proceedings were avoided entirely. The matter was resolved over approximately four months.

"The realistic advice on our position made all the difference to how we approached the negotiation."
